Level 4 & 5 : new wiki/old wiki

First of all, I just want to highlight the fact that all the web links published on the previous messages focus on older wikies...

Then, Wiki would be a good way to improve new ways of communication, as a new type of forum where everybody can correct what was done before. A kind of noosphere or all brains connection... The Nirvana, in fact, where everybody interact with everyone's ideas. The globla spirit, the human mana.

It would be interesting to see what it would evolve!!!

Because I am very found of comics, even more of French comics as for example Larcenet’s or Gaudelettes “bandes dessinées”. Those authors make very funny comics but they are not just laughing. They are also clever and sometimes deep in their purpose.

There are so much new authors in the new generation of french’comics : Sfar, Blain, Trondheim… etc.

So, if I want to do something on wikipedia, it would be on this subject.

In real next future, why not?

A Wiki is in Ward's original description:

The simplest online database that could possibly work.

Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.

The best-known wiki is of course Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopaedia, made by users themselves. I use it every day, when I need a search. It is not always very clever or deeply searched, but it is a good start for deeper search.

1. Learning a language, like English, is not just learning vocabulary and grammar and studying books. It is also learning how to use the language in order to get things accomplished, create contact, maintain relationships, establish trust and so on. These are the social or professional functions of the language. In this respect, what are the ways you are learning English in our class by internet? How are you creating and maintaining contact and relationships? How are you using English? What are the ways you could do this better?

The ways we are learning English is based on different level of improvement : first, by writing English (on the screen, on our notes… etc) more often than in a casual english course. Then, we talk about cultural topics in English. It is a good way to improve our talking English and our pronunciation.

Relationships between the professor and the pupils already existing by different material level : lessons, meeting, on-line conversation, blogs. It is a multimedia relationship. It is amazing and very interesting, moreover useful at long tail reflection because our future jobs would be more and more wired!!!

1. What is an FTP server and why is it useful? What are some of the activities you can do with it? Do you have one available for you, and which one is it? If you don't have one, why don't you get one?

FTP server can mean one of two things:

1. a computer responsible for serving any kind of files, via the File Transfer Protocol to FTP clients which can also be web browsers;

2. a software program that implements the FTP protocol and is working as a daemon serving any kind of files.

It would be useful for us to see our common files, sometimes heavy in term of bits, on a server, to be quicker in our use of those e-courses.

1. Our class has a special approach to interactivity. It is not possible to have the same interaction of a normal class, but it offers several new ways of interacting. What are these? What are the ways that are especially interesting to you? How could they work better? What technical solutions can you suggest?

My hugest problem with this class is this unbelievable multiplication of way of communications!!! Personal screen, common screen, text, sound… etc. Too much information! I do not know if the choice of MSN was good… More money would be necessary to done an e-class that would work…
